Let's Get Real: Living & Loving Without HIV/AIDS

HIV/AIDS is still a very real threat in Kenya, where more than 1.6 million people are living with the virus. For gay and transgender men, the rates are even higher. But there is hope.

A once daily medication known as pre-exposure prophylaxis or PrEP is allowing men to prevent infection before they are exposed to the virus, giving high-risk communities the ability to live and love freely without the fear of contracting HIV/AIDS.

I partnered with Population Services Kenya and ThinkPlace Kenya to create a series of films to promote the use of PreP amongst men who have sex with men.

Following the story of Cash, the three-part series shows his journey of living as a gay man in Nairobi, learning about PreP and ultimately deciding to take control of his health - and life.

The Let’s Get Real films are one of the first to be planned, scripted, acted and edited alongside Kenya’s gay and transgender community. The story is theirs alone; I was just lucky enough to bring it to life.
